THE CHILD LABOR PROHIBITION, REGULATION AND AMENDMENT ACT, 2016
Abstract This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the Child Labor (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016, which brought significant changes to India's legal framework addressing child labor. The analysis explores the historical context of child labor legislation in India, examines the key provisions of the 2016 Amendment, and evaluates its effectiveness in addressing the complex socioeconomic factors contributing to child labor. Through a critical assessment of implementation challenges, enforcement mechanisms, and stakeholder perspectives, this paper argues that while the Amendment represents progress in India's approach to child labor, significant gaps remain between legislative intent and on-ground realities. The paper concludes with recommendations for strengthening the legal framework and implementation strategies to better protect children's rights and welfare in India.
